VMware alternatives in Türkiye: a cloud migration checklist

Prepare inventory, pilot tests, final synchronization, downtime limits and a rollback plan before you move a VMware workload to a cloud in Türkiye.

Choosing a VMware alternative involves more than copying virtual disks. Network rules, application dependencies, licences and operating procedures move with the workload. When you evaluate migration to Skypium, prove the process with one application before you commit to a wider move.

Record inventory and dependencies

List the operating system, resources, disks, boot mode and application owner for each machine. Identify DNS, identity, database and external service dependencies. Record the required start order. Mark workloads where two running copies could duplicate transactions or corrupt data.

Compare equivalent offers

AreaQuestion
ResourcesDoes the offer meet the same CPU, RAM and disk needs?
LicencesCan operating system and application licences move?
ProtectionAre retention and recovery targets equivalent?
OperationsWho monitors, maintains and responds to incidents?
NetworkWhat IP, gateway and security resources are chargeable?

Do not assume a fixed licence saving. Compare your current contract with an actual offer. Use Skypium pricing for its resource charges.

Run an isolated pilot

Choose a machine with limited business impact. Test boot, disks, networking, DNS and application login at the destination. Do not run source and destination with the same production addresses at once. Prevent duplicate scheduled jobs, emails or financial operations. A successful pilot does not remove the need to check other machines for drivers and dependencies.

Define the cutover criteria

Initial transfer time is different from user-visible downtime. Estimate final synchronization, application shutdown, DNS changes and validation separately. Agree the acceptable data loss and recovery time with the business owner. Measure a representative pilot before you promise a specific cutover duration.

Write the rollback plan first

Define failure criteria, the decision maker and how to preserve new data written at the destination. Keep the source until acceptance is complete. Once destination writes begin, simply starting the old machine can create conflicting data sets. Prepare an application-specific synchronization or reconciliation plan.

Accept the application, not only the server

A running machine is not sufficient evidence. Verify login, critical queries, file writes and required external connections. Complete the observation period and a restore test before retiring source resources. Read the agentless migration guide for the existing workflow, and review backup and recovery as part of the migration plan.
